The Importance of Early Childhood Education

KUCHING: Early Childhood education can be fundamentally termed as “learning through play”. Early childhood education is a vital phase of life that encourages a childs brain development. Children at the critical ages of 3 to 6 years old are often exposed to a variety of information around them. As such, parents are often concerned whether information obtained may have negative elements that can hinder their development.

During these formative years, many parents place great interest in the early education provided for their children especially in pre-school. For them, the presence of qualified teaching staff is reassurance that their children will get the best education before entering primary school. This is important because early education will be the catalyst to the development of their minds when they grow older.

By understanding these needs, SEGi College Sarawak is currently trying to train more qualified teachers for this field. Accordingly, SEGi College Sarawak is offering a Diploma in Early Childhood Education for those who are interested in and passionate about this field. This diploma is also open to those who already have industrial experience but wish to enhance their knowledge and skills.

According to SEGi College Sarawak Principal, Madam Elina Tiu, the aim of this Diploma is to teach and assist students in handling children as young as 6 years old and covers the subjects that will be taught to young children such as Mathematics, Music and Drama, Arts and Crafts and others.

"As a component of the final year, students are required to undertake industrial hands-on training in any early education setting. This training allows students to apply and further develop the knowledge and skills they have already acquired during classroom lessons," said Tiu.

This Diploma has also received recognition from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), and it received a 5-star rating in MOHE MyQuest Evaluations. To encourage the needs of education, SEGi College Sarawak provides financial assistance in the form of education loans and to scholarship those who obtained excellent results in SPM and STPM.
