December 2012, KUCHING: SEGians celebrated a “Care For Animal” Day when they
visited the Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal
(SSPCA). SEGi College Sarawak Tourism
Club (SCSTC) showed their support by organizing a charity event at Sarawak
Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal (SSPCA). They visited the Centre
to care for the dogs and cats and helped the staff to clean the animal shelters.
SEGians
are against animal cruelty and believe that animals should be treated with love
and respect.
“Through the speech given by the General Manager, I
came to realize that many people are irresponsible and lack love for animals.
They would leave their pets there when they go on vacation. Some pets were brought into the animal
shelter by the pet owner’s neighbour as the pets were not well taken care of. It
is nice to know that there are kind volunteers that still visit and help at the
centre every week. I admire these good
Samaritans and hope to do the same,” said Maybelline Chew, student from Diploma
in Tourism Management, Faculty of Hospitality (FOH).
“Being a volunteer will help the students increase
their awareness of their surroundings and understand the needs of those around
them. Unlike people, animals cannot
speak for themselves and count on others to love and care for them. As
Hospitality and Tourism students, this activity helps our students to care for
others and learn to give good service to different groups of the society,” said
Madam Elina Tiu, Principal of SEGi College Sarawak.
The Faculty of Hospitality (FOH) offers
programmes such as the Bachelor of Science (Hons) International Tourism and
Hospitality, Diploma in Hotel Management and Diploma in Tourism Management, as
well as some new programs such as the diplomas in Culinary Arts and Baking &
Pastry Art.
The programmes offered under the FOH are
recognised by Malaysia ’s
Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and the Malaysian Qualification Agency
(MQA).
SEGi College Sarawak provides financial
assistance in terms of study loans and scholarships for students with excellent
results in SPM or STPM.
