KUCHING – SEGi College Sarawak’s students once again make the College proud of them when they successfully graduated from Northumbria University in UK.

The seven Diploma in Law graduates, who flew to the UK-based university to complete the final part of their Bachelor of Laws (Hons) degree programme, attended their graduation ceremony in Northumbria two weeks ago.

The newly graduated students are Timothy Chua Yaw Sen, Ting Lih Jing, Awangku Mohamad Iqbal Bin Awangku Jinal, Aaron Paran Gugkang, Fidelia Albert T. Enti, Evelyn Tan Yee Lin and Vanessa Binti Fahmi Collin.

“We are pleased that our students have achieved their law degrees. We have seen 100% success from our Diploma in Law graduates in Northumbria University,” said SEGi College Sarawak’s Head of Academic, Elina Tiu, adding that every Diploma in Law graduate who has gone to the UK university have gained their degree.

“The latest seven students have maintained that status quo.”

Contacted via facebook, Aaron said he was happy that he has achieved his UK honours law degree and was likely to proceed with his Master of Law (LLM) first before attempting his Bar, the equivalent of Malaysia’s CLP (Certificate in Legal Practice).

Two others, Evelyn and Vanessa, said in their emails that they were also considering doing their LLM prior to taking their Bar exams. The remaining four will be returning to Kuching as law practitioners.

Meanwhile, Programme Coordinator of Law, James Loi said: “At SEGi, we prepare our A-Level and Diploma of Law students with in-depth knowledge of the nature of law, legal institutions, branches of the law and its roles in the society.”

Holders of the Diploma in Law will gain advanced standing towards the Law degrees from SEGi’s partner universities, namely Northumbria University in UK or Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Australia.

“Law covers many aspects of our everyday life, from registering a birth to buying a home, but what’s fascinating about this area of study is the opportunity to study how the law governs our life and the opportunity to evaluate and think critically about any given situation.”

Law can open doors to many other careers, apart from being lawyers, where the analytical skills and problem solving abilities can be of great value to the graduates and their employers.

Those with qualifications in law will definitely enhance their career prospects and in the same time, open vast job opportunities in various fields such as policing, social work, and other law related or para-legal careers.

“For those who are interested in law or becoming lawyers, and still looking for the right route of study, we highly recommend them to start their ambition by enrolling into our A-Level programme or Diploma of Law,” Loi said.

The August registration is on and PTPTN financing available for the law programmes.
