Easier entry requirements for globally recognised UK honours degree

KUCHING: Now has never been a better time for students who want an accounting degree that is not only recognised in Malaysia but also internationally and by ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants).

The entry requirements for the prestigious Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Accounting and Finance has been expanded to allow direct entry for CAT graduates and LCCI diploma holders.

Previously, only STPM, A-Level or equivalent qualifications were accepted for entry into the degree programme, with Diploma in Accountacy holders gaining up to one full year of exemptions allowing entry into year 2 of the degree.

Those seeking to gain the ranks of ACCA will be happy to note that maximum exemptions have been given to graduates of this degree so that they need only sit for 5 remaining professional papers to qualify for ACCA.

And, unlike ACCA which is solely examination-based, students have a combination of assignments and examinations to leverage their results.

“One of the biggest advantages is that students who decide on this route will eventually have two certifications – the BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance and ACCA,” said SEGi Principal Elina Tiu.

“Having two high profile qualifications will definitely put graduates in a very favourable position when seeking for jobs as employers are more likely to be impressed by dual qualifications of strong standing than a singular one.”

CAT graduates would be required to complete all 3 levels while the LCCI diploma holders must complete the full set of their group diploma.

The degree is also very affordable. This is a 3+0 programme, meaning that students can complete the entire degree here in Kuching at a fraction of the cost as compared to studying in UK.

The estimated cost of studying in the UK is about RM70,000 to RM80,000 (including living expenses) per year. Studying in Kuching will cost less than RM40,050 for the entire programme.

Degree holders can also gain exemptions from other professional bodies like AIA and Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS).

This programme offers many career choices ranging from Accountancy to Wealth Administration in a variety of sectors like banking, estate management, unit trust, personal financial planning and corporate planning.

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Accounting and Finance is awarded by the University of Sunderland, UK, so students pursuing the degree in Kuching will receive the same certification as those studying on-campus in UK.

The examinations and assignments are issued by the University so the standard of the qualification will be exactly the same as those choosing to fly to the university to pursue their degree there.

Student with STPM, A-Level or equivalent can apply for full PTPTN loan or opt for the interest free installment payment scheme. Free financial advice will be given at SEGi.

The February intake is on and those interested can call SEGi’s toll free number at 1-300-88-SEGI or 082-252566 or e-mail: infoswk@segi.edu.my for further information.
