SEGi Sarawak Tourism Club makes a difference in Annual General Gathering

Have a nice dream. Sleepwear was the main theme to make Tourism Club’s Annual General Gathering 2012 a memorable event
KUCHING: SEGi College Sarawak Tourism Club (SCSTC) came up with a unique approach by organising a birthday party, themed ‘Sleeping Wear’, to coincide with the Club’s Annual General Gathering held at the Grand Supreme Hotel, on 9 November 2012.

According to the Club Advisor, Mr. Ting Hui Bun, a Senior Lecturer from the Faculty of Hospitality, “SCSTC came up with this theme with the objective of building better rapport between Club members and lecturers from SEGi’s different faculties. The Club also elected its 2013 office bearers during this event.”

“Students and lecturers enjoyed a mix of fun and games. Students were given an opportunity to mix with others members and build their networking skills”, added Ting. “The event was a success in part because of the kind support from our generous sponsors; the Grand Supreme Hotel, Level-Up Fitness Sdn. Bhd., Munch Cafe, John’s Pie, KTS Trading Sdn. Bhd., Full House, Ming Ming Travel Services Sdn. Bhd., and Hartz Chicken,’ said Ms Abby Lee, Program Coordinator from the Faculty of Hospitality of SEGi College Sarawak (SCSFOH).

The SCSTC Club, which is developed under SCSFOH, organises a variety of activities to compliment the Hospitality and Tourism Management programmes offered by the faculty. Under the SCSFOH are programmes including the Diploma in Hotel Management and Diploma in Tourism Management, as well as some new programs such as the diplomas in Culinary Arts and Baking & Pastry Art.

“SEGi College Sarawak actively encourages its students to be outgoing and dynamic in both curriculum and out-of-class activities. SCSFOH is expanding by offering an international programme in partnership with the University of Sunderland, UK. The BSc (Hon) International Tourism & Hospitality Management is now open for enrolment. Apart from this, we are also offering an Executive Diploma in Hotel Management which is a part time programme designed for working adults,” said Ms Elina Tiu, SEGi College Sarawak Principal.

The programmes offered under the SCSFOH are recognised by Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA). SEGi College Sarawak provides financial assistance in terms of study loans and scholarships for students with excellent results in SPM or STPM.
