SEGi’s Business Management Graduates find High Employability

GOOD CHOICE… SEGi students can look forward to high employment.

KUCHING: If students are worried about securing a job after graduating from SEGi College Sarawak’s Diploma in Business Management (DBM), they can rest assure that the chances of getting a job is nearly 100%.

The statistics, provided by SEGi College’s Faculty of Business, showed that 97% out of 2009’s DBM graduates are fully employed. The number does not include those who have decided to further their studies.

This is a slight improvement from the already impressive employability record from the 2008 graduates. In 2008, 92% of the graduates who was looking for a job were employed within three months of their graduation.

“Some even found jobs before their Graduation Ceremony,” said Diana Atton, Programme Coordinator for the Faculty of Business – Diploma and Foundation Studies.

“This is why SEGi College Sarawak is the premier Business College in Kuching, if not Sarawak. Our students have always been very well sought after due to our industry driven syllabus.

“SEGi has over 30 years of experience in this field and we have the proven record that we are among the best in Malaysia.

“However, it is only fair to note that more students decided to further their studies by articulating into University of Sunderland, UK’s BA (Hons) in Business and Management in 2008.”

DBM graduate Vera Veronica was pleased with the knowledge that she gained from the programme as it provided a wide coverage of business related activities such as human resource management, office administration and accounts.

The knowledge she gained has served her well in her current capacity as Office Manager of an established retail outlet in Bintulu.

“I started off as an Administrative Assistant,” she said, noting that she got the job after applying for the post in one attempt. “This is my first job.”

Vera was promoted to her managerial post within in a space of one year.

Similarly, Shriver Peter and Chong Ee Lin, both found jobs as Accounts Assistants. Both said the curriculum was good and that the lecturers were able to provide real-life experience and scenarios which added value to the lessons.

The industry-driven syllabus was advantageous to both women as it created a better platform upon which to launch their careers.

Shriver works in the automotive industry while Chong work with a freight and forwarding company.

Although the programme is in business management, it covers many aspects of accountancy which is to both women’s advantage.

“It is a good programme. SEGi College’s facilities are good and the lecturers are helpful,” said Shriver.

Meanwhile, STPM students who applied to study in local universities but failed to gain a place can take advantage of SEGi College Sarawak’s latest promotion.

They can still vie for a bachelor degree from any one of the College’s partner universities with a RM5,000 rebate off the tuition fees.

The added advantage is that the students will now gain an overseas bachelor degree at a much lower cost than before. All they need to do when they register with SEGi College is to provide a copy of their rejection latter from the local university.”
