KUCHING: Students from Chinese-medium schools can now use their Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) results when they pursue higher education at SEGi College Sarawak.
In addition, they can also apply for PTPTN loans, a new development on the government’s stance to encourage further education locally.
The entry requirements are 3 UEC credits for diploma programmes and 5 UEC credits for degree programmes.
“This is good news for students of Chinese-medium schools. In the past, getting a degree locally after their examinations was very limited as entry requirements to local institutions was based on the SPM and STPM results,” said Stella Lau Principal of SEGi College Sarawak.
“Many Chinese students had to sit for 2 examinations, namely UEC and SPM, as they needed the latter results for entry into local higher institutions.”
Allowing UEC students to get PTPTN loan through local colleges is another good development as it means that more youths would be able to upgrade their knowledge and skills.
Students can also take advantage of the SEGi’s on-going promotion for a financial free study period.
They can opt for the RM500 single sum payment and not have to pay anything until they have finished their entire course. The remaining amount will be covered by their PTPTN loan.
