Psychology: The science of mind and behaviour

KUCHING: Psychology is the field relating to mental and behavioural sciences. However, many of us have the misconception that psychology and psychiatry are the same thing.

Psychology and psychiatry belong to two very different areas of study although there are in the same field. Psychiatry is the field devoted especially to the study and treatment of mental disorders, while psychology is the study of the mind and behaviour of a person.

Psychologists often use scientific methods such as careful observation, experimentation and analysis. These scientific methods are important for psychologists in order to look for a different approach based on solving various cases, depending on the needs of the people, organisation and society.

There are many companies in Malaysia that require workers who are knowledge in the field of Psychology for their skills and approaches, which are especially useful when conducting interviews, sales, marketing, business negotiations, education and more.

Therefore, SEGi College Sarawak has acknowledged this industry need and is committed to producing more professionals in this field through their Diploma in Psychology. Students who study this programme will enjoy vast career prospects in different fields such as business, education, health, communication, and others.

Madam Elina Tiu, Principal SEGi College Sarawak, explained that the syllabus in this diploma was developed in order to educate students on how to understand human emotions and behaviour through different cases. This practice helps students to develop their critical thinking and analytical skills in solving mind and behavioural cases.
