Exposure to industry background is important to Higher Education students

KUCHING: Exposure to the accountancy background is important for students of higher education. SEGi Sarawak’s Accounting students had an opportunity to learn more about the accounting industry through a Career Talk session with the Malaysia Institute of Accountants (MIA) on 30th November 2012 and Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) on 7th December 2012 at SEGi College Sarawak.

MIA is a statutory body, established under the Accountants Act, 1967 to regulate and develop the accounting profession in Malaysia. Their responsibilities include education and quality assurance as well as enforcement which are carried out to ensure that the credibility of profession is maintained and public interest is continuously upheld.

CIMA is the world’s leading and largest professional body of management accountants. They have around 195,000 members and students in 176 countries. They prepare people for a career in business by teaches skills for strategic advice, managing risks and making key decisions.

The talk sessions were organized by Faculty of Business and Accountancy (FBA)’s Accounting Club in order to ensure that the students are able to understand the current environment of the accounting industry. This allows students to prepare themselves before entering the workforce.  

“This talk session gives our accounting students a chance to gain more insight of their career prospective after graduation”, said Madam Elina Tiu, Principal of SEGi College Sarawak.

The Faculty of Business and Accountancy is the largest Faculty in SEGi College Sarawak Campus and they offer a variety of courses from Foundation to Masters levels. In partnership with University of Sunderland (UOS), FBA offers UOS’s Bachelor Honours Degree and Masters (MBA) programmes.

Recognised by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA), SEGi College Sarawak is providing financial assistance in terms of study loans and scholarships to high achievers in SPM and STPM.
